1. Know Your Site Emergency Procedures
Review your site’s:
- Evacuation routes
- Invacuation / lockdown procedures
- Emergency exits
- Assembly points
- Access control protocols
You should be able to act confidently without hesitation during an emergency.
2. Refresh Your ACT Awareness Training
All officers are strongly encouraged to refresh their ACT Awareness knowledge.
The free online training provided by the UK Government takes less than 45 minutes and provides essential guidance on:
- Identifying suspicious behaviour
- Recognising hostile reconnaissance
- Responding to incidents safely
- Protecting crowded places

3. Report Suspicious Activity Immediately
Do not assume someone else has already reported it.
Examples of suspicious activity may include:
- Abandoned bags or packages
- Individuals acting nervously or conducting surveillance
- Attempts to gain unauthorised access
- Unusual photography of security arrangements
- Vehicles parked suspiciously near entrances or vulnerable points
If something feels wrong, report it immediately.
4. Maintain Professional Composure
During heightened threat periods, members of the public may feel anxious or concerned.
Security officers play a key role in providing reassurance through:
- Calm communication
- Professional conduct
- Visible vigilance
- Clear direction during incidents
